This course is for anyone who wants to learn more about the centuries old technique of gilding, which stills retains its fascination. In particular, the course will focus on the application of gold leaf to wooden surfaces, a technique that does not require that one be an expert restorer.
This course also includes internships for those who want to further enrich their knowledge of the techniques for the restoration of wooden frames decorated a pastiglia (with bas-reliefs made from a mixture of gypsum and marble powder).
The main gilding techniques dealt with during the course include the following:
- polishing
- invito
- laying down of gypsum and glue
- ammanitura
- laying down the bole
- burnishing the bole with agate
- applying gold leaf
- burnishing the gold with agate
